About The Workshop.

This immersive design-build workshop is a unique opportunity for architecture, interior, industrial, and furniture design students and young professionals to explore sustainable construction practices while gaining invaluable real-world experience. Hosted in Belize, the program combines intensive hands-on building sessions with cultural exploration, personal growth, and portfolio development.

Who It’s For.

  • Architecture, Civil Engineering, interior, industrial, and furniture design students and emerging professionals.

  • Those eager to expand their design portfolios with built work and sustainable construction methods.

  • Individuals open to possibly being filmed, photographed, and possibly interviewed for official program media purposes.

What the Workshop Includes

  • Accommodation: Comfortable housing provided throughout the program, including Sundays (program rest days).

  • Meals: Daily meals included Monday–Saturday. Sunday meals are not provided to allow for free exploration.

  • Construction Training: Hands-on sessions covering gabion wall construction, basic bamboo joinery, material preparation, natural finishes, and more.

  • Lectures & Discussions: Engaging talks on sustainable design, construction techniques, and a special panel on the application of natural finishes in interiors.

  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with peers and professionals from across the globe.

  • Portfolio Growth: Document your built work, design contributions, and hands-on construction skills for future academic or professional use.

  • Excursions: Included in the total costs of the workshops, participants will be taken on local excursions to better understand culture and community. 

Hands-On Construction Activities

Participants will actively engage in multiple stages of the design-build process:

  • Material Preparation & Handling: Bamboo, stone, and locally sourced materials.

  • Structural Assembly: Walls, frames, and sustainable building systems.

  • Bamboo Joinery & Detailing: Cutting, shaping, and assembling.

  • Gabion Basket Assembly & Filling: Stone-packing and reinforcement.

  • Natural Finishes Application: Lime wash, clay plasters, and eco-friendly coatings.

  • On-Site Problem Solving: Adapting designs to real-world conditions.

Cultural Exploration & Excursions

Participants will have the chance to explore Belize through optional local excursions (included in the package price). From Mayan ruins to lush natural reserves, Sundays and downtime are designed for cultural immersion and adventure.
